Cover letter: Your cover letter is amazing and provides a really good summary as to who you are, and why you would be a great applicant for any job! I think that you should include that you were a CNA on this particular unit and discuss what you know about what this unit values, and why you would be a good candidate for this particular job.

Resume: I really like how at the top of your resume you included a summary of qualifications I think that this really brings it together and will get an employers attention. I like the way your resume reads, though I would go through and make sure that all bullets start with action verbs. Also, under your work experience for MMC include that you were a CNA, I don’t think it was very obvious looking at your resume at a glance. Overall, really impressive resume!

Hey Shannon! I really love your cover letter and resume! I feel as though your cover letter will connect well with any future potential employers. There are a few things I can suggest for your resume though. I love the action words that you chose, but I would just make sure that you are putting them in the correct tenses. I would also be careful about using acronyms in your resume, just because not everyone may know what SASC or CRLA means. I know that you have accomplished a TON being here at UNE, but I would be careful about the length of your resume and try and get it down to two pages. Other than that, I think your resume and cover letter are amazing!

    Hey Shannon,

I just read over your cover letter and resume. I would have to agree with Sophie; you clearly have substantial experience and are fully qualified to be an amazing nurse resident. However, it is a general rule of thumb to keep resumes down to two pages. Which, is such a pain because I had to cut out some work experience to fit everything in! Also, definitely add your EMT certification in your “Core Competencies/Skills” section! You might also benefit from adding a little “pop,” or some color in your final resume to add a little bit of Shannon’s character. I love your set up though, I think hiring managers will appreciate what you bring to the table.

In terms of your cover letter, I think it has all the components that are important to include without making it overly long. I will agree with Sophie again with the acronyms, just because hiring managers may not know what they stand for. Which, is also a reminder for me to get rid of acronyms hiring managers may be unfamiliar with! Other than that, I think it was well-worded and thorough.

    I hope this helps! 🙂

    Hi Shannon,
I want to start by saying that I really liked your cover letter and resume! When I was reading over them, I could see how well qualified for your potential job you are. In your cover letter I love how you talked about your experience at UNE and how that makes you stand out. I think it may be helpful to include what aspects of nursing you have been prepared for from working as a CNA. With your resume, I agree with Sophia and Jordan that getting your resume down to two pages is ideal, like we talked about in class resumes should be short and sweet. You had great action verbs within your bullet points, and it made them stand out. I would recommend writing out some of the abbreviations as Sophia brought up, not everyone knows what CRLA, SASC, or GAPSA are, and it might reduce confusion. All together great job with your resume and cover letter!
