Our final dissemination project was presented to the Bean 5 nursing staff in the form of posters hung up on the unit, and survey’s dispersed to the staff. Unfortunately, we did not acquire any feedback from our surveys, which is slightly disappointing because we cannot accurately assess the staff’s response. We may not have received feedback on our surveys due to multiple reasons. One reason is our survey was only posted on the unit for about a week and a half, so we may not have had enough exposure. Another reason is we relied on the unit educator to disperse our educational posters around the unit, so these may not…

Human Trafficking Presentation
This presentation identifies the healthcare needs of Human trafficking victims, defines what human trafficking is, and gives examples on what steps the healthcare staff can take to advocate for this population. Post Hospital Elder Life Program
Throughout my volunteering in the hospital elder life program (HELP), I was able to work with multiple patients who were experiencing delirium. This helped me realize that by orienting the patient, socializing with them, and ensuring the patient was getting adequate sleep, nutrition, and fluids delirium can be prevented. The HELP program provides a great opportunity to ensure a patient isn’t developing delirium and if the patient is, the volunteers in the program can notify the nurse so interventions can be implemented. This is the Final Project Proposal for Clinical Group 8. Our project examines the use of oral care and how it is used to prevent tracheostomy infections. Our project outlines how education on oral care will be implemented and evaluate the effectiveness of the education. Telemedicine in Acute Care
Before learning about telemedicine and telehealth in class, I was unaware that there was a difference between the two. I now understand that telemedicine allows a provider to diagnose, prescribe, and treat a patient all virtually when a patient is in a healthcare facility. This reminds me of the tele sitters they utilize in the hospital to watch fall risk or elopement risk patients. Telemedicine is a useful tool for nurses and providers because it allows for the staff in the health care facility to prioritize their patients that can’t be treated through telemedicine. Human Trafficking
Before the presentation and class discussion on human trafficking last week, I had significant knowledge of human sex trafficking, but limited knowledge on human labor trafficking. I knew many of the risk factors associated with sex trafficking we discussed in class, such as lack of social support, financial concerns, housing concerns, and impaired family dynamics. I have lived in Maine my whole life, so I have learned on multiple occasions how prevalent sex trafficking is in our state, which is probably surprising to many. Planning Change
I anticipate that our dissemination project will run smoothly, since our group I already communicating very well, and we see each other every week at our clinical placement. I do anticipate our project being a little more difficult when we all begin preceptorship because we will be on different schedules. I think we will still be able to communicate through this challenge however, because we have already made a group chat to communicate questions, ideas, and tasks.  Disaster Nursing
As a nurse, you are responsible for the care of your patients and their safety in the event of a disaster. All emergency plans are centered around the best way to keep patients and staff out of harm’s way as much as possible. On top of caring for their patient’s, nurses are also responsible for triaging of patients, if necessary, to ensure care is efficient and the most people can be helped. Pre-Hospital Elder Life Program Eportfolio Post To my knowledge currently, delirium is an acute process that frequently affects the elder population in the hospital setting. Delirium is acute confusion, which is often misunderstood as dementia. Ways to prevent delirium include assessing patient mental status at least once per shift, re-orienting patients to their room, preventing infections such as UTIs, reorienting patients to person, place, and time, and providing mind stimulating tools such as crossword puzzles or books for the patient to read.
