Attaining and Protecting Your Professional Nursing License
I intend to become licensed in Maine since I have already accepted a position at Maine Medical Center, and an additional per-diem position at Spring Harbor Hospital in Westbrook. Maine is a nurse licensure compact state. I do want to become a travel nurse after few years and may work in states that are not compact licensure states however, such as Massachusetts. The application for licensure for the state of Maine can be completed online, which I am happy about because it is much easier and efficient. If I was assigned this birthing couple, I think I would have a lot of questions because I have never worked with a pregnant transgender male before. I also would feel worried since I have never taken care of a transgender birthing couple, and would want to provide the best care possible. My first priority just as the couple’s provider said would be to ensure I was respectful of their pregnancy and that all the other healthcare workers and staff were as well. Career Development Reflection
The first skill the nurses identified that I would like to develop over time as a nurse is understanding from experience. Many of the nurses in the video explained how understanding from experience helps them make connections with their patients and provide comfort in their time of need. Learning to be grateful for every day as a nurse is also something I learned from this movie.
