NSG 202: INTRO TO NURSING

Course Description:

This introductory course integrates previous learning from the arts and sciences and inter-professional studies with holistic concepts of caring to support the health and well-being of people. Emphasis is placed on the knowledge and science of nursing that includes, but is not limited to, self-care, self-awareness, comfort, and homeostasis, which provide a foundation for one’s individual nursing practice. Basic nursing skills are introduced to foster emerging clinical reasoning. 

Course Objectives

  1. Explore the relationship of knowledge from the humanities, arts and sciences to the provision of holistic nursing care.
  2. Demonstrate the use of therapeutic communication and the application of beginning nursing skills as a basis for practice.
  3. Recognize moral, ethical and legal elements inherent in the formation of professional nursing values.
  4. Recognize the role of data collection, using nursing skills and evidenced-based knowledge, together with informatics, in the planning and delivery of nursing care as a member of an interprofessional team.
  5. Identify the elements and environments required for the delivery of quality health care
  6. Discuss the importance of self-care as a foundational element in the delivery of quality and safety in nursing care.
  7. Describe the impact of selected health care issues on the provision of nursing care to diverse individuals, families and groups.
