    Final Reflection

From this team project, I gained a lot of experience with group collaboration. This is a valuable experience as a nursing student because I will be working with other nurses throughout my entire career. Working collaboratively with others is an essential skill in a hospital because you constantly need to be in communication with other health care professionals. I also learned how to better communicate in a group setting. When small conflicts arose, I was able to find a solution with my groupmates. I would want a potential future employer to know that I am informed on the topics of quality improvement and evidenced based practice. I would want a…

  • EBP I,  Ethics,  Professionalism,  Role of a Nurse

Ethical Considerations for EBP After completing all the ethical assignments for class, my understanding and viewpoint of how nurses contribute to the ethical conduct of research and implementation of research findings has only become stronger. In the movie we watched, “Miss Evers’ Boys”, the medical professionals knew that a cure had been found for Syphilis, yet they withheld this from the volunteers to examine how the disease progressed. This position by the medical professionals was an extreme case of ethical misconduct, and patient deaths even resulted from this lack of ethical reasoning. This research experiment was highly unethical because it caused physical and emotional harm to patients and families. It…

  • Ethics,  Role of a Nurse

Assumptions   As a nurse, I feel that it is my role to uphold my own personal ethical standards as well as the ethical principles of the facility I work in. It is important to me that I treat my patients ethically, and use the best practices supported by research and evidenced based practice to treat them. This way, my patient’s will always receive the best care possible without violating my own moral standards or the ethical principles of the facility. If I feel that a patient treatment or procedure is unethical, it’s also my job to notify my supervisor that I cannot complete the procedure or treatment. As a…

    Appraisal and Synthesis

Throughout the process of appraisal and synthesis of our sources, I really felt that my team was becoming more prepared to begin drafting our paper. We found that our sources were reputable, and a lot of evidence, research, and work went into the data analysis collected to establish the results of our articles. I found that my assumption on our topic of how contraceptives affect fertility was incorrect. I assumed that long term contraceptive use would permanently alter fertility, due to the excess hormones it supplies to the body. In the article I found, it actually stated that fertility was only affected for approximately 6 months before regular fertility levels…

    From Inquiry Through Discovery

After searching for articles and developing a PICOT question, our group actually did not need to revise our topic or question. This isn’t to say it wasn’t difficult to find the articles we needed to develop our research paper. It was challenging to find articles on long term fertility effects from different forms of birth control. We quickly realized we would need multiple articles to encompass all the parts of our research paper.              Our team has experienced a lot of success in group collaboration. We worked well together to form our PICOT question and to find the best articles for our paper. We also communicated on group assignments about which…

    Planning the journey

For this team project I envision our group working together on each step. Regarding communication, my group will meet in person, whether that’s during class time or outside of classes to go over each big step of the project. This way, we will all be on the same page at each step of the project. We will also meet either in person or over zoom to go over smaller details of the project, or if anyone has any questions. My group already communicates on a regular basis, so I don’t see this being a barrier for us. Our topic for our paper was debated by all three of us, and…

    Thinking About the Journey

Since I started my college career in nursing, I have done a lot of research on nursing specialties. The specialty that speaks to me the most is women’s health/fertility nursing. This would be my dream job as a nurse because I’d get to communicate with patients, run tests, and do IVF treatment. Other specialties I am interested in are cardiology because I really enjoyed learning about the heart, dermatology because of my interest in skin care, and nephrology because I have had personal experience with kidney-related health conditions. I’m also interested in furthering my career as a nurse and becoming a women’s health nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, I…

    Collaboration in Nursing (B)

First Comment: Eva,I love this picture you chose here to represent collaboration. It is very creative and insightful. I agree with you that collaboration in nursing is like the inner workings of a clock. There are a lot of intricate pieces that have to work together for the clock to work. The clock also reminds me of the healthcare team as a whole. As nurses, we must work with Doctors, CNAs, Nurse Practitioners, Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, etc. The best outcomes for our patients happen when we can collaborate effectively, which is why it is so important. Thanks for sharing! Second Comment: Francesca,  I think your photo of the bee…

    Collaboration in Nursing

When I was searching for a photo that resembled collaboration, I came across this one which really jumped out at me. Collaboration is something that is easily overlooked in many professions where working together is so crucial to success. Nursing is no exception to this, and frequently in the nursing field there is tension between coworkers and other members of the health care team. This picture demonstrates a concept that I always try to live by, which is that by working together, you can come up with a better solution/idea than you could have alone. Everyone’s opinions and ideas are so unique and valuable in healthcare, no matter what role…

    Critical Care Chapter

One chapter that was particularly fascinating to me was chapter 2 called Getting my Feet Wet. In this chapter, Theresa Brown has a patient who’s back splits open. This shows all of the odd occurrences that can happen in the nursing field. Brown’s patient’s back split open due to such a large build up of fluid. The pressure was too great for his skin to hold all the fluid in so it just split. Brown called a code on this patient who ended up being okay. She describes in that moment how her only concern was her patient. She wasn’t focused on anything besides keeping him as safe as possible…
